Nadine Kakanou
RN, BSN, MSN, PMHNP-BC
Psychiatrist Nurse Practitioner
Ms. Kakanou is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with five years of experience in the field of mental health. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from Walden University. As a PMHNP, Nadine is responsible for evaluating a patient's mental health status by assessing their medical history, conducting thorough psychiatric evaluations, and identifying potential issues that could negatively impact their mental health. She recognizes the importance of considering different perspectives, such as biological and developmental views, and understanding the perspectives of the stakeholders affected.
Nadine started her healthcare career as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) in 2006 after completing her course at VMT Education Center in Washington, DC. Her passion for patient care eventually led her to pursue continuing education while working as a CNA, and she received her associate degree in nursing in 2012 at Prince George's Community College in Largo, Maryland. She then obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Nadine continued her education and received her master's degree in Psychiatric Mental Health from Walden University. She has had five years of experience in mental health care, developing the skills required to access situations from multiple perspectives in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of a patient's illness experience. She recognizes that symptoms of a mental health disorder may not always conform to conventional diagnostic criteria, and a PMHNP must have a high tolerance for uncertainties and a willingness to frequently re-evaluate assessments upon discovering new information.
